Broward Housing Partnership

Housing – the cost and availability of it – ranks at the top of almost everyone’s list today as one of the most talked about issues in Broward County . The need for affordable workforce housing has never been greater while the challenge of providing affordable housing for working families continues to grow.  Its’ importance cannot be overstated, but solutions are complex.

The Broward Housing Partnership, Inc. (BHP) - a coalition of local businesses, community groups, developers, bankers, and government officials - was formed in early 2005 to pioneer new approaches to solving the housing problem in Broward County .

If your company ever wanted to make a real economic development difference in our community, this is the time to do it.  By investing in the Broward Housing Partnership, you will support many efforts to transform lives, strengthen our workforce and address issues which government won’t or cannot do.

Build alternative funding sources. Our new BHP Housing Trust Fund and BHP Community Land Trust are designed to help build rental housing, provide new homeownership opportunities for our workforce and assist special needs housing.

Provide sorely needed assistance to developers and government agencies.   Our mission is to pioneer new approaches to affordable and workforce housing solutions.  We work closely with developers in designing critical workforce housing opportunities as well as forging state, county and local government initiatives.

Make our community aware of the growing crisis and solutions needed.   Through our website, email blasts, community partnership forums, and public presentations, the Broward Housing Partnership is the one reliable, comprehensive and balanced source of information about this critical issue.

Published Friday, March 21, 2008

If an incident at the Boca Raton Housing Authority last week doesn't set off alarm bells for public officials from here to Tallahassee it can only be because they are willfully ignoring the affordable-housing crisis that is all around them.

By morning, more than a thousand people -- mostly women with children, and disabled and elderly residents -- had gathered from all over Palm Beach County. Much confusion ensued and, ultimately, hundreds were sent home empty-handed by police in riot gear.
